Five Card Draw – © Jo Ann J. A. Jordan

Five Card Draw

1)
I have no language
For these desperate words, needs,
Buds begin showing.
Will you ever notice me,
Listen to the ebb and flow,
Know the dreams I am?
I wait, quiet, a vision
Wishing, hoping, still
Wondering I become this
Blushing shadow breathing; left.
2)
I say to myself,
“I will eat salad, for health,”
Better intentions,
I buy it with open joy.
The refrigerator keeps
The package secret
In its shelved bowels, cool
As rock stars at night –
I would be and consume it,
But alas, it went to rot.
3)
I have always grown
Among the wild outcast weeds
The thistles and briars –
Thistle made a color in,
Was it the sixty-four box?
It might be some pink,
If memory serves – welcome;
Years propagate like
Dandelions invading,
Fescue forgets how to fight.
4)
a.
No one goes there, but
Sometimes, whispers make the eaves
Echo like thunder.
b.
The tree I planted
Grew strong, tall, as intended –
Visited no more.
5)
a.
Once before I fell
Into love, but escorted
Out, I made away,
Too long dismissed, boredom chilled
The fragile blossom expired.
b.
Hurt is tread-down grass,
Words that fray confidence.

Direct Lines

The chosen lines give
Indication and inclination
Future to reveal
Where lessons taught yesterday
Make the present stand to say
Whatever there may conceal
Though better given would be
In those rivers long run
Faithful to the abounding sea
Where eventual nets remain always
Forever thirsting inked free
All this too high and lofty
To discern in mediocrity
But maybe ascertained by hearts
Raging with just pure love
Dependent upon the Lord above
Who is to every seeking soul
Completely available in petition
Within His grace to be extolled
Setting captives sudden independent
Of stifling claims, doubt, which no longer
Serve to hinder purpose, instead
Building minds in creative thought,
Bodies becoming sound with lithe strength,
Calling treasures truth to speak.

Prompt:
If you sit with no concrete decision and allow your mind to wander, you may be surprised by what arises. If the well of who you are – thus inspires you, create.

Thankful List
I am grateful:
1. My mind.
2. My heart.
3. My love for others.
4. My dogs.
5. Being on my own.

I meant to write something about the photo; because my being short, I had extreme difficulty changing the bulb and returning the fixture, but I find I have no lines. I like the image, despite, so it is here.

NOTES on LEGACY

Legacy is the meditation of passing years when one considers the actions, relationships, results, the minutiae of ordinary and extraordinary days.

Lives are broom strokes clearing the dust. Buildings collapse, people come and go, knowledge passes from memory, sometimes everything seems slow, but dreams grow tenuous.

Incubating the children of creativity and imagination is the purpose life has given those artistically or literarily inclined. Masters create works of marvel to which dancing eyes are drawn and slow escape. Spinning stories, poems, treasured, repeated through ages is a gift of sages wearing authorial labels. The images – experiences of the present inform futures of which creators have only vague guesses.

The progeny we spawn, teach, love only retain the vaguest conception of us. Our accomplishments, victories, and dreams grow evermore meager in eyes who new wonders perceive. We are best set by making our works shiny and bold, letting majesty from each unfold if we seek to be more than moldering ruins in the grave.

Love shared with our principles and broader circles as we are able, expansive generosity, moments spent in joy together, and times we forget ourselves as present and seen. These are the honorable legacy that matters for every human being.

Prompt
Think about how you remember those you have lost in your life. Think of younger people you know. Perhaps create a work to memorialize someone or work about how you think you and your contemporaries will be remembered.

Hidden Words

The poem is in us
Lying dormant, a snake set to strike
With power and might
Ready, free to take our breath away
Enlighten us with visions, dreams
We allowed lapsing
Among the preoccupations
Of mundane days filled with stress,
Times we left ourselves leaderless.
The poem is in us
Crackling with hungry flames
To put our hearts, minds afire
Encourage us to grow, inquire
Into the methods which may
Lead us in a meaningful way
Steering us to share a greater love
Teaching others of the need
To carry out every good deed.
The poem is forever in us
Our mission is to search it out
Unleash it from its hiding place
Bringing it into open space
Guiding the world to share grace.

There are so many things here that remind me – Mom is gone. I miss her. She loved this giant heavy cement pig, and she even painted it, and I cannot move it.

The DungeonMaster Died

I know he was not yours
But this has universality,
Please, lend your time to me:
Listen close; you can almost hear
As the dragons roar, far and near,
Before leaving their lairs to fly
A beautiful formation across the sky
Allowing tears from every creature’s eye.
Boroughs, cities, hamlets, towns
Everywhere take their banners down
So pageantry of colors fair add no cheer
In the world where his thought and vision
Through creativity brought life and activity.
I spent many hours there, I tell you truly,
No one else like him I ever knew;
In the evenings, he built a sanctuary
From the disillusionment of ordinary days
For a party of strangers who became great friends
Those times I wish could be here again;
A world and heroes will quietly disappear into yore
All our spells, weapons, and treasure
Will now go unclaimed forever.
The DungeonMaster died,
But to each player who lived
Those faithful magic moments
The awareness of this loss’ cost
Will never to memory be lost.

Now that I have typed this up, I wonder…

Few things lately have so strongly resonated with me; I will let it stand despite doubt.

Prompt
Create a work about something highly emotionally charged. If you feel inclined, share it. I did.

Gratitude List
1. Recent reading.
2. Working through my fear, I recorded a song.
3. Rain.
4. The Rolling Stones
5. Poetry can sometimes tell a story more clearly than prose.
