Heroes

I rate no kisses
In ordinary moments,
But I am also
The Provider Of The Food.
In the minutes which
I fill the ceramic bowl
I come clothed in praise,
When I set the food down, there,
No one is more beloved.
Next, I sit; I am
Slathered in grateful kisses
I have no escape,
So food is the way to win –
All pure doggie hearts,
Walking is miraculous
Work too, so dogs admire you.

Storms Call

There is a storm
Brewing just beyond
This loneliness and
Moments when hearts
Connect in a flash,
Swift lightning
Becoming whatever
Is needed to set
Worlds colliding –
At peace, aright.
One calls it love
Another caring,
But the storm
Puts together
The need, the wanting,
Bodies, emotions,
The fading of day
The magic of night.
A hand joins another
No signals for stop
A celebration begins –
A deeper immersion
Finds transcendent delight.

Bookish Wonders

There on the shelf
A constellation of stars,
Unwitting cooperation,
To be explored in
The privacy between
Covers, pages, air, space
Eyes, brain; finding life,
Love, the meaning only
Words can capture, present,
Gifts, mind to mind,
Heart to heart, no matter
The years apart and death
Or living, chronicles of
Everything worth ink
Spilled, durable notes.
Maybe it is our one
Ordinary magic shared
Extraordinarily deployed,
Fresh as a rosebud,
Blushing as a bloom
Recreating us, enhancing
Our understanding
And fostering creativity.

Doggie Dreams

It was a day
To
Rebound from being
In lockdown,
A day
Maybe
To run far and fast
Away,
Hope thought so
Anyway.
As she walked out
The door she leapt
Forward
Pulling against restraints
Of her leash thinking
Perhaps this once her human
Would let go,
Praying doggie prayers
For freedom though
She knew nowhere else,
She
Would rather be.
It did not work,
It never did,
Hope had tried
A thousand times
Before.
So, she prayed for treats,
Toys and petting from
Her human
And tossed her tail
In the breeze
Like
The beauty she
Was convinced
She was made to be.
