Review: Current Reads

I want to share two of the books I am reading:

Inspired by Rachel Held Evans is the book I did not realize I needed until it took hold of my heart, mind, and soul. If you ever felt uncomfortable with some of the complex parts of scripture and wondered how they could be explained in light of God being a good, loving, and just deity, this might be helpful. The answers may not be easy, but at least this book enlightens and gives you a position of solidarity.

Lore by Alexandra Bracken follows the other mythological texts I seem to keep reading and shines brilliantly. This is a modern struggle between gods and humans in a race for survival and ascension. The writing is beautifully done, and the pace never lets one slip into boredom. I am enjoying it immensely.

I know Christianity and myth are not always embraced together, but I like a little lite with my seriousness. I am always in search of variety.

You might like one or both of these.

Blessings embrace you
Every day in all things, ways,
God be your love, peace.

Edge of Dreaming

Footsteps like snowflakes
Track along slender edges
Of a welcome dream
Where though long over, a love,
Survives the mists hiding time.
Clinging to sentences
Maybe voiced or perhaps dreamed,
They create a smile
In innocent forever
There is happiness again.
Somethings sweetest hold
Onto semiconsciousness
And in bleak moments
Arrive within to carry
Pleasure and hope continuing;
Augmenting belief
In the goodness of living
So one steps forward
Not forsaking the future
But attempting to obtain
Such love as is possible.

Enough To Do

Completion of tasks
Long undone provides a sense
Of accomplishment
That borders on mystical
A release, approbation.
Overcoming blocks
And procrastination is
Difficult to do
But when the dam is broken
Blessings flow straight into view.
Life is a constant
Fight against forces that curb
Enthusiasm,
Restraining creativity
Leeching imagination.
Breaking through to
Rewards and employing faith
In God’s continual
Love, grace, mercy bestows strength
With positive energy
To live productively and endure.

1
There is a feeling,
Extraordinary, when
A new book opens
And the reader goes within
To travel worlds, places, times.

2
Reading is such joy
To be caught up in story,
A shiny new toy.

3
It is  cumbersome
Bumbling through every day,
Searching for a way
Outside the hive of struggle
Into a higher state, life.

Gratitude List
I am grateful:
1. The day is near ended.
2. I caught the exuded matter from Tribble’s eyes before it got worse.
3. I managed to leave the house for a few minutes.
4. The pants I recovered washed up well.
5. Tomorrow is another day.

Enchantment

I slept my birthday
Night in the golden canvas
Raft sunflowered in my room
Where the carpet made deep sea,
Daylight came teasing me up.

Nights to weekend, treat,
I lounged in the comfort
Of the Summer smelling
Island centered in from bunks
Feeling pillowed aboard
Rope dangling dreaming water.

When I pushed the small boat
Into the lake, my tan legs pimpled
Like plucked chicken skin
I dove toward the center
But bathed in the crisp cold
Shivering after the floated away.

Lessons sometimes tear
The gentle expected flinching
Off life teaches young, memory
Buys nothing but bills unpaid
True oneself bites, slips, cast-off
Keep confidence to grab on
Not even this, forever, but long.
