Worn Hallelujah

Where life goes
Staggering around corners
Trying to escape
The grief when too much is lost
Or drunk on finding new love.
Fingers wanting to hold
Tight to things material
But time gives lessons
On how better to allow
What is precious to pass.
All is a veil worn
By a bride, which gossamer
Covering will not linger,
With a kiss dispersed
And years are away, past.
Only to be today
Worry along nary other way
Find the smiles, laughter,
Learn and again, for knowledge
May keep company after.
Love, it is living
The spirit, soul, heart
Of every human being,
Mutual, a blessed treasure
Often sought, seldom caught.
The pain of years
Memories of beauty, love, joy
Restrain a flood of tears
For sadness brings reminding
Life is worth all given.
So sing loud, pray often,
Hug the beloved
Swim with the dolphin
Share and be grateful
Existing is delightful.

Plowed Under

Today, I shall between
The hours dance complete around
With warm dreaming sleep,
Avoiding the daylight burn
Until I measure and yearn.

Nothing to hide yet,
But whatever plans affirm
Latterly discern,
Vision will attest merit
Create opportunity.

Slumber is the gift
Bestowed when fallen below
Demands kept in tow,
Sail upon seas no avail
Lighthouse garish, ever pale.

Watching forever
Mysteries too great, never
Understood, clever
Passes for intelligent,
Only pior to divergent.

Dance the dream into
Whatever seems best, pursue,
Seasoned reason who
Will sport the being whereto
Joy is found beyond all bound.

Break Free

The timeless appeal
Of bottomless foundations
Leave one another
To dredge rivers of hope, need,
But still coming between – greed.
Advantage follows
The stronger needing duties
Performed with slim thanks
Not often heeding complaints,
Or recognizing stolen dreams.
The ages roll, roles
Still favor some, limit others,
There is no parity
Equality, an ugly myth
Blinding many to problems.
If one stands up, out,
It may not mean advancement
The ceiling rises
The walls grow ever thicker
But it is not done, over,
Time will see the flight
The scaling of every height
So run, run well, catch the light,
Winning brings freedom and delight.

I read an article in American Scholar that inspired this poem. I also picked the word bottomless from a vocabulary list.
