Festive Preoccupation

It was a difficult time for most, worse for other ones. I struggled with pain and attitude. Rummaged, through my mind for what I might do, came up with a solution. The trick will be if I continue to completion.

I have not done a major mailing of cards since 2010. Then I did so many I have left it be until now. I went to my stash and brought out a plethora of boxes with a variety of Christmas Cards.

The reason I went so long since the last mailing is my personalizations. I use the blank inside page to write a message tailored to my recipient.

2020 is an incredible year. It has been full of fear and unease. Maybe a card will be a welcome diversion. I know writing each one will consume me for a bit.

As a prompt, I encourage you, especially if you feel awash with negativity, to extend your creativity to writing cards or letters to those for whom you care. You need not go to extreme expense; just let others know you care in your own words.

Perpetual Conflux

Lightning sweeps across
The palette of storm clouded
Sky, blindingly bright,
Picking a tree on which to
Dividing destructive strike.
At the bottom, torn
From the rich life-giving loam
An olive hued
Shoot arises to climb ably
So lavender blooms lively
In winding waves set
Beauty where death might have been
A stalwart final
Force, but it could not so cleave
Nature from its directive
Nor the love of life
From a continuance which
Inaugurated
In the depths of time, never
Leaves barren what begins primed.

2020 Acrostic

Twas a year to begin again
We were mostly anticipating good,
Encouraged by the placement of
Numbers, excited because of the past,
The Twenties were Roaring before
Yes, everyone had ambitious plans.

There was maybe opposition to
What we hoped, by some-things,
Everything went kaput –
None of us knew a solution,
The hope remained, and we, me and
You made the best of it all.

Everyone keeps trying, helping,
Never giving up – on anyone;
Doting on each victory,
Sending love to win.

We together as a people
Energetic in our determination
Loose power in hope,
Love to mend the planet and us.

As a prompt, pick a name, phrase, verse, whatever you will. Put one letter below the other down your page and write a poem. The form is called an Acrostic. Sometimes I will do them of people’s names. It is unique.
