Some Site-Keeping

You probably noticed I have been tinkering with the site recently. If you have an opinion, I welcome the input. The theme I had been using so long was retired, and there were things I wanted that it would not do.

Going into the new year, I thought changing things up might serve us well. I am still debating whether to rededicate myself to another 365 days of posting daily. I would love to garner thoughts on this. Ideas and suggestions about what I might do differently or more of; would also be appreciated.

I hope I have made things more user friendly. I came to WordPress when MSN Spaces closed. My blog, Chronicles, goes back to that transfer. Haphazard Creative was a different start when I suffered some tragic losses. Sometimes I regret that I did not just rename and continue with it, but it is too late now. Chronicles was more personal; Haphazard Creative heavily focuses on creativity.

I am not thrilled with some features of the new theme, but it is likable.

Five Tanka

Voices now missing,
Faces unseen, we cannot
Recover the lost
But memories linger beyond
The pain suffered every day.

New love a blessing
Washing over vacancies
Erasing injuries
Taken in other places
Times no longer tightly grasped.

There are songs able
To dump us in a swamp full
Of scalding teardrops
Which might completely drown us
Did others ignore our need.

Did you see angels
As the faces of loved ones
Appeared in your dreams?
Those given to enrich lives
Are Heaven’s agents disguised.

Why now agonize
Over tomorrow’s dark storms?
God goes before us
Smoothing the pathways we walk
So worries do not exist.

As a prompt, try your hand at writing some tanka. The form is five lines with syllable counts: 5-7-5-7-7. I often stack them for longer poems. Tanka are a simple form, short enough to allow a quick bit of work, but long enough to convey complex meaning.

Adherence

Sometimes only silence
Can tell the stories we need
To welcome, collect,
For in the moment retained
The voice of reason appears.
Years chasing after
Things we cannot possess more
Than blinks of our eyes,
Acquisitions soon become
Clutter we must eliminate.
If we are so blessed
We awaken to realize
Love is the only
Treasure worth living, dying,
To maintain, eternal gain.

Empower

Open the doors, gates,
Let love be the preeminent state.
Know the beauty, find the grace,
Turn all of life into a pleasant space.
Let go of the fear and pain,
Nothing long remains the same.
Hearts beating a tempo new
Where negativity once grew.
Love the utmost power –
Proven, upon others, hour by hour.
No claims made without due consideration,
Can elevate – unless love is in the deliberation.
Each moment a precious gift
Reviving spirits, souls acquiring lift.

Touch/Go

The fuel rigidly resists
Not responding to flame
Even when applied over again,
Fire cannot burn without catching;
Warmth smothered in neglect.
All can be very urgent,
But set aside without tending –
Heavy darkness grows, overflows;
Stumbling steps have little traction,
Losing what grew, attraction.
Continuing deep in attrition
Burning snuffed – ends the mission –
Nothing left but blown-out matches.
