Inquiry Into Idiosyncrasy

Sometimes I wonder
Being a curious sort,
Do we know people
Or do we know them only
As we imagine they are?

The explanation
Of how we wrap others up
In our thoughts, hopes, dreams,
May explain relationships
Being awkward to maintain.

When the hologram
Stored with mental notes in mind
Is inaccurate
Compared to the true person
Acting out in present time –

Worlds begin to clash
Configurations may crash,
Curtains pull away
We are all left gaping on
The bare stage; reality.

Perhaps endeavor
To better acquaint ourselves
With who we may be;
Encourage others to see
Us in actuality.

As a prompt, can you relate something out of the future or fiction to some mundane question and create a work that embodies it? There, you have your assignment, go multiply your thoughts, and enhance your talents.

How It Goes

We gave no others
Those things we found alone,
We shared together
Otherwise, outside space, time,
Our reasons belonged to us.

In lonely hours
We scored companionship through
Impulses on screen
Then called feelings provoked
Newly forged reality.

When corporeal
Life faded early adopters
On the cutting edge
Became those most easily
Able to adjust and thrive.

Creativity
Became the measure of
The pandemic age
Love at a distance rewarded
Those who could communicate
Fluidly in all states whether
Screen distant or face to face.

My computer has a completely new attitude and works like a dream, thanks to my guru. I hope all of you are doing well.

As a prompt, think about the changes in your life recently, create something that embodies what you are going through. Alternately, create something about how you hope things will be in the future.

If you like what you are seeing, please follow the site or come back soon.

Blessings.

Tanka

We exchange our time
For fulfilling our desires,
Fragile happiness,
Where love and relationship
Are the needs without compare.

*****

Harms often find us
But these never define us;
Victories make us,
What love willingly bestows
Our hearts share, among others.

*****

A life born today
New unto the world will change
With love, those soon touched,
For every person gifts us
With hopes, dreams, blessings, anew.

*****

What cannot be done
Does not explain that which can
For our strength is found
Despite the fragility
Built on our infirmities.

Tanka is a five-line syllabic form with counts 5-7-5-7-7. I enjoy counting syllables, so I use them a lot. If you like, as a prompt, write some tanka of your own.

I have a longer piece coming if I can decide whether to scan it or type it. Although I have typed for a very long time, I find little joy in it. The Remington Rand and Royal might have something to do with that. Thankfully, my Microsoft keyboard is a bit less taxing than were the manual typewriters. Yes, I remember when but make no mistake. I am a native here, now.

I hope your day was joyful, and your burdens were light. All life is a celebration rejoicing at the moment.

I think suffering may be provided to magnify joy; when the night is darkest, the light appears brightest.

This Now

Now is an extension
Of every now this pandemic
Has held us, hostage;
For some, it began with
The first announcement,
There was a disturbing
Feeling, an uneasy inkling.
One hopes for the best,
But it is nowhere found,
A world on lockdown.
Life at home becomes
The new normal,
Some find themselves
Desperate for escape,
Some grow fearful of any
Exterior contact, staying sheltered.
Children homeschooled,
Telecommuting, lay-offs,
Entertainments canceled,
Doctors, nurses, medical
Professionals pressed beyond
Human limits, risking all,
And steadily, death tolls rise.
We are yet together, connected
Because of virtual life,
All of us, aware, knowing,
Hoping that humanity can go
Forward into a now where
Dying is no longer a constant
Fear, contagion is not everywhere,
A now where we can embrace
One another in loving security.

Creativity Now

If you are fortunate enough to have some extra time in your schedule now, I want to encourage you to spend a portion of your day engaged in a type of creativity:

You might want to write your observations of this time in a journal or create poetry and stories that are entirely unrelated. If you have ever had the ambition to write a book, perhaps this is your ideal time.

Photographers might enthuse themselves with taking photos of a scene over some interval of days, and look at the changes, or use them in layers combined for an HDR effect.

Artists might find ordinary items in the household and anthropomorphize those objects, even working them into a cartoon or short animated movie.

For those who have culinary desires, now might be the perfect time to delve into grandma’s recipes or that book you never opened and do some food magic.

Those musicians who need some practice could try something they have never gotten around to, or write some new songs that would surely receive a warm welcome the first time they are performed.

Computer programmers and other computer geeks, this is your time to code your own project until your heart is content.

Readers, this is the time to explore everything you choose. Go everywhere, everywhen, everyhow, you wish all within the covers of books or the pages of eBooks.

Of course, any of the above could engage children or pets as subjects in work, also involving children so they better understand what can be done creatively is a valuable learning activity.

I am confident if you look at this time from the perspective of opportunity that you will find inspiration and things to explore creatively. Time is only wasted when we fail to recognize its value. These are a few ideas, I am sure you have more if you allow.

Take care, be well, God Bless You!
