Why Insomnia

Hypnos was controller of none of the humans in 2020, the powers above his pay grade had relieved him of that luxury; still, he could disturb their reality. All the distractions vying for attention drove many people to the brink of exhaustion. With his experience in sleep’s theater, Hypnos could easily reach those minds open to predation.

The wily god liked ending sleep only barely begun. On one human subject, he played the game to allow an hour, or three, of rest and arranging something to incite wakefulness. At times it was streaming a louder song, having the dog jump on the bed, changing the room’s temperature, or sending a frightful nightmare.

For another victim, Hypnos reckoned sleeping day hours and wakeful all through the night would be splendid and cause eventual dissolution. A satisfying state of affairs for his purposes.

Humans were oblivious to Hypnos’ interference. The old tales were rarely told, and so their memories were incomplete. His path was without obstacle. People who thought they slept well were providing him with a smorgasbord of dreams. He swallowed their strength.

Alex and I talked about sleep problems and this came up. I think I might do more with it, but I never know.

For-Ever

A single moment
Given us an eternal
Part, portion of time,
Revealed nuanced majesty,
We only free passing breaths
Catching, capturing
Whatever treasures loving
Deposits for our
Edification, swiftly
Shining creativity
To illuminate
Lives where imagination
Must most nurtured be,
To foster change occurring
Wrought to build a better world.
Every beating heart
Each wondering mind wanders
Into the presence
Of the rare lovely present
Setting all aglow.
Eternity measures reality
LOVE’s duality greater grows,
Time, a perdurable minute
Yet everlasting overflow.

By Way, High Way

So much of what you read gets its first run on these pages from my pen. Sometimes I think maybe seeing the process, rough, will encourage you others to engage your creativity. It is always my hope and delight to have the opportunity to encourage and inspire. Today has been very productive. I love days when the writing does not stop.

If you would like a prompt, think about how you can recover the zeal of new love in either a relationship or some creative endeavor and make something representative.

I appreciate your visit here at Haphazard Creative and hope you will follow the site or come back often. I am in the midst of my 2020 Creativity Project, which requires at least one post per day here. Somehow committing to that has set me up with much more work than I have done before.

Your comments are welcome. I try to answer them all promptly.

I hope you are dealing well with the pandemic. This is an incredible time.

Thank you, and many blessings to you. Keep writing and creating.

Auditing the Self

I wrote this poem earlier today but hesitated to post it. Journal Writing and Poetry fit together like dominoes with me. One cannot go far without calling out the other.

Robert Brewer of Writer’s Digest’s April PAD Challenge is starting early this year. You may want to join in on his blog, Poetic Asides. I am considering doing the Poem A Day, but I am already committed here, so we will just have to see.

I hope all of you are finding yourselves not too severely inconvenienced by the Coronavirus and am praying everyone stays well. I am doing usual things, maybe a little more than usually, I do. My dogs seem a bit clingy, and since I am reading and writing a bit more, I am listening to Focus@Will rather than music with vocals. It seems to help me concentrate, which is good because I am stressing.

I helped copy edit the magazines, but our content was down. I sincerely hope events and businesses can restart soon.

When nothing is normal, we have to create a new normal, because our beings require stability. In whatever fashion you can regulate your days, whether reading, writing, working in place, or being outside, I highly recommend it.

As a prompt take the words disruption and normalcy, create something that reflects them. Like always when I present a prompt you are free to take it in any direction your creativity will. I am very much a believer in using as few limits as possible.

God bless and keep you, everyone. Look for those who are attempting to help and join as you may. Smile, nothing lasts forever. Imagine how joyous we will be to see one another again.
