Evening Revels

Whatever happened
To the ones who drifted by
Not knowing the names
Of the places once traveled,
But drinking the wine, despite?
Maybe the meeting
Of another changed the face
Of one, perhaps more,
Bringing smiles that sang loudly
Of happiness, shared bedrooms.
There may be others
Like the one in a blue suit
Who was returning
From a funeral wished not
To have attended, hopeless.
Reckon all these lives
Will little remember how
Each place held lilies
In  blue vases chased with gold,
If memory stays at all.

Prompt: What do you remember of a day several months ago? Create.

Shorts (haiku and tanka)

1.
The grass outside hides
A cave where our dreams reside;
Let’s shelter inside.
2.
Keep On
Pursue life and love
There are enough death and hate,
Keep forever safe –
From thought of our causing harm,
To these selves freely given.
3.
Who will carry us
When we have nothing to give,
Like Winter bare trees?
4.
Their desolation
Lies thick as whimpering pups,
Whose mother is lost.
5.
Say, “Hello, today!”
Yesterday has retreated
Leaving vacant space;
Tomorrow may not arrive
For us, uncertain alive.

Poem and Tanka

Empty Spaces

When a life departs
A body, only remains,
An assortment of
Discarded things, relationships,
Without breath or animation.
Memory struggles, fades,
As ensuing days
Go on with whoever
Contains the treasure, hard
To guard, uneasily measured.
A longing persists
To catch a glimpse, hear a phrase,
Sweet visage, clear voice
Held dear, but lost from here.
Never, never, until some
Future, Divine Presence gives
Overdue reconciliation
Uniting those who, wander,
Later in, with kith and kin.
No need can find all,
Disembarking space and time,
Leaves suddenly adrift, behind;
What had meaning, without beholder
Begins to decay and molder.
Oh Death, how unjust your taking
Leaving Life to spoils shoulder.

Tanka Explore

1.
Heroes are only
These dreams we greatly esteem,
But may never meet,
No love we share between, yet,
We hope their joy is replete.
2.
Blowing up his phone –
A need I cannot postpone,
But no rainbows come;
Talking to me is a chore
He rather not, anymore.
3.
I love you more now
Than when first I invited
You to share my heart
Knowing over time how grace
Has greatly forgiven me.

Keeping Until

Love – Doves © Jo Ann J. A. Jordan

Following

We win sometimes, but
Other times we lose so hard
We break down and weep;
Remember our tears; God keeps –
Never quit ’til final sleep.
There is a purpose
For every hurt, all defeats,
Pain is creative
Teaches strength enough to leap
Catching dreams Love lives to keep.
No accidents, all
Obstacles, problems build up
Reservoirs of good,
Blessings that shower down on
Us, when we come to grace – show.
