Remember, Do You?

Do you recall the first time
You realized all the world
Depended on no single thing,
But other hearts needed you
Enough to boost hope and reason
For continuing beyond those
Times love given seemed less
Than what might be wanted?
Remember pulling a smile
From the aether and laughing
Because crying was much too cruel?
When you won your big thing,
Do you remember thinking
Of all the small stuff sacrificed,
And wishing with a lurch,
You had those along with the glory?
Remember the kiss you thought
Meant the world and forever
And somehow all your dreams
Faded like the rosy pink in
A Summer’s sky at the end
Of an utterly magical day?
Do you recall how everything
Seemed so hard and you thought
Of giving up, but someone had
Faith to tell you how you could do
More than you thought possible,
That you were capable beyond
Your belief and you pulled yourself
Up together and conquered defeat
Sallying on to succeed tremendously?
Remember the darkness cannot
Overcome the vision of light
Captured in a moment
Needed to set the flame in
Motion to take back now
And claim the past and forever.
Remember, remember, do YOU?
Do you recall that no matter,
This is your life, and you are able,
Able to survive because you are
Here now and have come so far,
In the present, you can go further,
You can take possession of success.
Despite negatives facing you
Your life is precious and may thrive?

Prescription

A simple prescription for defeating a creative block is to face whatever media we work with and simply make a start. Writing is my fondest medium, so I began with A. I do not typically encounter the condition of block, nor the related issue of boredom. Still, I recognize both can be problems for some.

Reading can be a preventative measure against boredom and can dispel block when inspirational material is read. I do not rule out any content that one fancies. We find our inspirations in what we love.

Sometimes creative work with materials used in childhood or similar to those can be the catalyst for a product that is hugely satisfying. I think this is one of the reasons journals are so appealing to me. Writing by hand was how my early stories and poems were done.

Construction paper, pipe cleaners, and glue can be used to make more sophisticated work now that we are grown up, but those materials bring our child out to play. Often when I create art, I go back to early beginnings and use colored pencils. The smell of shavings is very evocative of efforts made before the critic became hyperactive.

If your early days included film, simply remember the feeling of beginner’s mind and get out and take the shot. The idea here is to leave the agonizing behind and simply fall in love with capturing the subject, any subject, now.

A cause of boredom and block is our tendency to overthink. If we become engrossed in the doing, the being, we can escape the critical tendency to be overtly adult.

Some people say think outside the box; my thought is to consider the box lost in another dimension and explore that territory. No answer you discover can possibly be wrong.

Okay, sorry, this was free-form, and as with much free-writing should you disagree, just take what you can use and disregard all else.

I have not written explicitly about creativity in a while, and this is Haphazard Creative. I hope you are graced by intense creativity in whatever you choose to do.

Wildly Untangled

If you need a different perspective, listen to something different, read something different, write with your non-dominant hand, write differently – on a device, by hand, outside, inside, in another place. If you want creativity in your creating – do differently. Maybe that is a prompt.

Keep Walking

One step, up step now
You have a destination
Leave the down step behind,
Chase your dreams, walk your line,
Speak plain truth, let love guide.
Let the negative thought slide past
Pay it scarcely any mind, reach high,
You are precious, your life is meant
For goodness, kindness, compassion
Give yourself a chance for the best
Your experience and others refresh, bless,
Be the memory some hold for hope
Set goals that lift lives aloft
Live alive in love, for peace, in grace,
Embrace who you are, a gift from God,
With the power to help others grow
While learning more of mercy and faith.

As a prompt, imagine yourself speaking with someone very different to yourself. Imagine how you would approach subjects, would it make your conversation unusual? Could you be clear? Create something that illustrates your thoughts.

Getting Off The Ground

Adversity to Flight

Life can leave us humiliated, hungry, hurt, thinking ourselves unable to make the cut. We can become our worst enemies by letting sneaky negative thoughts slow and stop us in our pursuit of excellence.

When we wish to fly, we book with an airline, pack our bags, and get on board. We are not in charge, we allow the pilot to guide the plane. In life, it is sometimes necessary to turn to others who are wise and experienced. We depend on their guidance to aid us in discerning our direction.

All of us have moments of doubt and fear; the world can, at times, seem terrifying. Within our lives, we have people whose judgment we know to be trustworthy. If the problem is too all-encompassing to be handled alone, it is time to call the flight crew. You know, the friend who will host a few people to help you get off the ground. These dear souls bring the party with their culinary skills and perfect taste. Add someone who has a finger on the pulse of the financial and business body to be of immense assistance. In the case of the meeting, you are the pilot, but you need the others, including ground control.

Ground control can be a set of references that advise your team with updated data and factual truth. While you are trying to lift off, you do not need to leave yourself to hearsay or faulty sources. Reaching for dreams come true, goals realized, success is no easy exploration. One must engage wholeheartedly and persevere.

Putting in the time, making an effort, seeking encouragement and inspiration from reliable sources will give you the background to take off for the heights you imagine yourself conquering. With your goals soundly in mind, you can take flight. Remember, if you stay positive and continue in well-doing, nothing is beyond you.

Prayer and asking God’s favor is also indispensable in the meeting of goals. Who better than the Creator of all things to invite into your endeavor? Be of good cheer, have a prosperous year.

By the way, I have never flown. I just know those who have.
