Penny Reigns

124th entry – 2022 Creativity Project

Penny Reigns

I have a penny
Stored deep within my pocket
It has no value
In today’s daily markets;
A relic of yesterday.

I am set thinking
That time like cursors blinking
Is quick insisting
That forward is all moving
Toward something yet unseen.

Hear the deft music
Playing, urging consistent
Movement surge today
Like pennies, time slips away,
Registers without delay.

I want this moment
And another and after,
Letting yesterday
Become a foreign rumor,
Living purpose, my dreams.

Go far, fast, and free
Find the meaning of all things
Meant to have being
Reaching for true liberty
Confident, courageous life.

Forever and ever
The penny like a melody
Reminds me to give
My best in times made like these
Because excellence matters.

Stand full unafraid
The past cannot drag backward
For velocity
Carries into each second
Such growing humanity.

2022 Creativity Project – Day 6

Open the door on a new-fangled year. Somehow it seems unclear who is going on. Will a pose be stuck to endear, or are all acts sheared away.

Maybe everything is unformed as the void was before the Word gave life. Words are the tools to sculpt the way, whatever means each day.

1
I
Light the
Chalice
With a
Headstrong
Libation
From
Somewhere
Distinct
In memory
And moment,
Motion
To see
You
Again.

2
The work
Never stops,
The war to
Keep together
What battles
Left me;
Meaning confused
By voices,
Whether his or
Mine,
Unknown.

3
I sing
Like,
Maybe,
Someone
Would
Take
Interest,
Still,
As usual
I am plagued
By fear
And doubt –
The both
Block
My
Music
Out.

4
Sleep,
Soft ones,
So dear –
Life is
A balmy
Evening,
Where ravens
Appear.

One through three are tanka; four is a haiku. I gave them unconventional line breaks to add emphasis.

PROMPT
Consider something you have created; take it to another medium or form. Please do not presume to know what you make until you take directions you did not first use.

Appreciation
1. Even when I fall, I find the way.
2. What no one knows.
3. Still learning.

Past-Time

I heard
Someone
Say
You said our
Together was
Over,
Love had
Flown –
Tears filled
Up my eyes
Because
I was
The last
Come knowing.
A shadow
Over
The day
Just
Started
Growing
My heart
Paled, collapsed
You in
Your life
Kept going,
Lonely
Mine was
Destroying.
Still, sweet
Music plays
My heart
And soul
Forever
Taste
The words
To sing,
I writing
Will catch
Inklings –
Making
Fresh
Love
Melody
All things.

Prompt

This was written in fifteen lines, each five a tanka. I decided to bring it here, do some edits, and elongate it by making the lines short.

Your challenge, should you accept it is to take something you have written – do a sea-change with the form. This could be current work, a piece you laid aside, or even a found work from your own material. Try to hold the meaning or make it new. You are the creative engine. Blessings.

Celestial

Some tell me the stars
Hold me, describing my fate;
I think they shine light
Into the deepest darkness
Lending me strength to begin.

When the sky above
Burns like a bonfire aflame
Upon such a plane
The confusion enhances
Every blessed moment timed.

I plucked, like fine fruit
For display, banquet, table,
Where grace finds its place
Making everything stable
Until dawn convenes with song.

Rich the scattered hours
No creature may fast devour,
But explosive spent
In ceaseless labor unmeant
To torture the evening ways.

The stars have lived long,
Being a beginning staid,
Forever music
Played those spheres united, untied,
What we know, guess, still survives.
