Cultivating Needs

Come now, please enter
The corridor streaming to
A future unknown
But welcoming, becoming
A notable destination.
Take a step leaving
Fear, mediocrity far
Behind so living
Suddenly transforms into
Lovely creativity.
All guesses, thoughts, knowns
Are but reflections cast on
Screens of dreams that seem
In their happening, transports
To realms hidden beyond mists.
Getting where wishes
Occur in truth that passes
Through hearts of loving,
A discovering of each
Wonder made unmatchable.
Instruments play songs
Of personal power made strong
Enough to alter
The fabric of what is real
Bringing miracles to light.
People are the keys
The beating hearts, searching minds
Manifesting bright
Hopeful marvels beautiful
In happening – to extreme.

A Duo

Icy, Not Pricey

Celebrating bills
Of the electrical kind,
Some go down like mine,
Cold weather is quite welcome,
Cause cold never bothered me.
My thermostat says
Fifty-two morning arise,
Okay, I feel fine
Later heat-wave sixty-four,
Not even cold when outdoors.
While Winter cold shocks
I enjoy a great reprieve
But when warmth returns
It is gloom and doom because
Cooling costs take breath away.
I can warm myself
In a variety of ways,
But going naked
Will not even block the heat
When sweltering Summer comes.
It is then I find
Myself all undone again
With bills so costly
I can never win my way
Without a fortune to pay.

Just Do It

If you find yourself
All alone, feeling lonely,
Stop thinking only
You are in that dreadful plight,
Many languish in the night.
Take some time to think
How you might step to the brink
Reaching out your hand
To find a woman or man
Who would with you come to stand.
Love is glorious
Changing dreams into something
You can touch and taste,
A reality with grace
Fantasy cannot replace.

Five Tanka

Voices now missing,
Faces unseen, we cannot
Recover the lost
But memories linger beyond
The pain suffered every day.

New love a blessing
Washing over vacancies
Erasing injuries
Taken in other places
Times no longer tightly grasped.

There are songs able
To dump us in a swamp full
Of scalding teardrops
Which might completely drown us
Did others ignore our need.

Did you see angels
As the faces of loved ones
Appeared in your dreams?
Those given to enrich lives
Are Heaven’s agents disguised.

Why now agonize
Over tomorrow’s dark storms?
God goes before us
Smoothing the pathways we walk
So worries do not exist.

As a prompt, try your hand at writing some tanka. The form is five lines with syllable counts: 5-7-5-7-7. I often stack them for longer poems. Tanka are a simple form, short enough to allow a quick bit of work, but long enough to convey complex meaning.

Posit

Gather the sunshine
Of loving relationships,
Pour inspiration
Wherever you may need it,
However, it may provide.
Involve, evolve – in
Present moments, existence,
Be now, who you are;
Let the past escape notice,
Concentrate, living fully.
Release your image
As you must transform, outgrow;
Building is today,
Being brings uncertainty,
Present, future, mindfulness.
Never give up – quit –
You are here for excellence,
Creation ponders
Your coming accomplishment,
Magnificent, majestic.
Everything each day
Is yours to taste and savor
Add chosen flavors
From all your encountered joys,
Make life a sweet happening.

Perpetual Conflux

Lightning sweeps across
The palette of storm clouded
Sky, blindingly bright,
Picking a tree on which to
Dividing destructive strike.
At the bottom, torn
From the rich life-giving loam
An olive hued
Shoot arises to climb ably
So lavender blooms lively
In winding waves set
Beauty where death might have been
A stalwart final
Force, but it could not so cleave
Nature from its directive
Nor the love of life
From a continuance which
Inaugurated
In the depths of time, never
Leaves barren what begins primed.
