When… We must…

When weak, we must be strong,
When exhausted, we must find energy,
When depressed, we must smile,
When hurt, we must be pleasant,
When broken, we must mend,
When unwanted, we must self-soothe,
When bullied, we must believe ourselves,
When challenged, we must excel,
When blocked, we must create,
When empty, we must become full,
When tortured, we must go on,
When afraid, we must stand,
When doubting, we must trust,
When love hurts, we must embrace it,
When at an end, we must begin again.

We must continue at all costs;
For we are overcomers,
More than conquerors,
Because we belong to God.

Poetry is magic,
Words hold creativity
Encompass the world,
But unraveled, unrehearsed,
Unreleased, unwrit, unborn,
The cold can still those hearts
Where verses dying unmade
Cannot warm the souls
To compose again, after
Silence eats every refrain.
Yet, hear warm whispers
Of nibs laying ink on pages,
These mighty mind tricks
Raw ignorance cannot stop,
For words, contain love’s power.
Generation lights
Bright flames to begin new works
Capturing passions
Igniting tenderest needs
Preparing words to be read.

Lowercase Hours, Days

I begin to long
For those lowercase hours, days,
When the news was not
Filled with terror, loss, such deep
Human costs; lives we treasured.
Death gone viral, cuts
Us at every corner, blood,
Poisoned by a virus, taken
Needlessly by actions
Unconscionable.
Headlines, commentators, debaters
Shouting in contention for attention
The racket drowning out needed
Silence, senses stirred with no
Intention to abstain and seek
Relief.
Uppercase the months
Hasting in lockstep go by
We see with open eyes
Recognize all the calamity
The vivid insanity
We cannot deny and cry
For the love that we hold –
The world we knew
The things we never thought
Were precious that now
Live in the past we cannot regain.
More lowercase days, maybe,
Are slumbering in a corner
Peaceful,
Where the sun and shadow
Perfectly balance allowing
Moments to dream up a future
Where we are aware and
Prepared to be braver than
Ever before, appreciating life
As irreplaceable and worth
Striving to create through
Love and imagination
In optimum days when we mix
Excitingly all cases of hours, days.

Fey

Like fire on water
Warming skin and blood, a touch,
From you puts spirits
Racing, needing, wanting more
All the love given, returned.
I never thought to
Feel this way with anyone
Who entered my life
At this latter date, mistake,
I am now yours completely.
I fear, I do, much
For I can be fanciful, wild,
A bit of chaos in some days.
I turn scared, wither, at words
Not meant to elicit pain,
Only bring cool calm to bear;
How I try to be a pool
At peace, when I am an ocean
Stirred, waving, crashing to shore.
Silly me, I do not even
Seem to know myself these days,
When with you, no longer am I
A quiet shade haunted,
Fading, passing fast away;
I become a passionate creature
Living moment to moment
Fully alert, indubitably alive
Always anxious to be with you.

He calls me an Agent of Spiraling Chaos. Only with him, but then again, I am uncertain. I get excited when people are with me. I just love everyone. I spend too much time alone.

Reading Update

Do you read a lot? Sometimes it surprises me how and how much I read. I am going to do a little differently than I usually do with this update.

I have been reading almost exclusively on Kindle and devices. I also tend to read several books at the same time. Since April 15th I have completed these:

The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien 5stars Reread.
The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien 5stars Reread.
Anne Boleyn: 500 Years of Lies by Hayley Nolan 4stars Not entirely sure I agree with the summation here.
Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien 5stars Reread.
The Master’s Apprentice by Oliver Potzsch 5 stars, and that does not reflect how very accomplished this novel is.
Grammars of Creation by George Steiner 5stars Deep scholarly text that challenges as it enlightens.
Auxiliary: London 2039 by Jon Richter 5stars a reading request from the author. Excellent story, well presented.
Terra Luna by Vikki & John Woodward, this is a 5star story, but it is marred to an overall 3stars because of a bevy of errors in copy editing. This was an author’s recommendation.
Unspeakable Things by Jess Lourey 5stars chilling story.
A Prayer for the Dying by Stewart O’Nan 5stars, this is a plague novel and was very appropriate for the time.
Life: A User’s Manual by Georges Perec 5stars this is a challenging novel and extremely satisfying, but might not be for every taste. Translation from French.
What Lies Between Us by John Marrs 5stars There are no winners here, but getting there is a great ride.
The Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith 5stars I have a soft spot for books about books, throw in a battle between Heaven and Hell, yeah, I am there with you all along the way.

I also tend to read The New York Times, AJC, Science, Granta, and others a bit along the way. My major disappointment in life is the is too much material to read and a paucity of time in which to do it.
