Some days you must be
Apart, beside, outside, of
Who you often are
To reach the skies, and capture
Stars, to open other eyes.

Wide-open without
Any filter, touching grace, faith, love
Without displacement,
Conquering doubt, fear so near,
Being creativity.

Place a hand inside
The rippling river flow
Catch life passing by.

The Earth is speaking
Imploring care be taken
If not, scythe falling
Will in measure take what is
Here, reach beyond permission.

No one sees because
Depths hide, out of open sight,
Mind is not described.

Standing brilliant in
Relief before the shadow,
It scarcely matters.

Sometimes conversations take flight going beyond normal thought. Such was one with Alex today. I wish I were a better conversationalist, but being a sounding board is essential too, I suppose.

Prompt: Think of something you could create to serve the needs of human beings and the planet at large. Create a representation in art or words.

Gratitude Today:
Alex inviting me to talk to him on his drive from Florida.
Being home all day.
Writing.
Listening to music.
Almost 30,000 steps.

Dabbles Everywhere

Once, much like peasants
Left in the desert’s harsh sun,
Now, relief may come,
Though through no action our own
But many blessings given.

We have today, now,
Tomorrow a hopeful dream
May become our truth.

Breaking foamy waves
Shining lit by sparkling sun
New hope, dreams begun.

Valleys of shadow,
Mountaintops of brilliant sun,
Our journey goes on.

So fragile small hope
Then God broke heavy shackles –
Setting love to life.

Desolation of heart,
Soul, feeling, and character,
Taught us to follow
Love, leave division, unite –
Within freedom’s holy light.

I will sing my love
As a cry and a quiet prayer
And dream my dream true.

Fear may trouble us
Doubt may torment sunny days,
But it is okay
We are overcomers all,
Our hearts are brave, bearing love.

The gifts, more than cost,
Bestow happiness forthright
Love, we are for life.

Dear Lord, please provide
For us, Your gracious blessing,
Help us not to fall.

Prompt
When one writes short, many things can be covered independently. Try your hand at haiku, which are counted syllable poems of three lines with counts of 5 – 7 – 5. If you care to, do some tanka as well, the syllable counts are 5 – 7 – 5 – 7 – 7. These short forms are good exercises to prepare the voice for more extensive verse.

Gratitude Now
Listening to my favorites, The Rolling Stones, in live shows streamed from YouTube.
Spending time with Richard when I did not wish to be alone.
Catching a nap.
Coming home so I can Rock.
My ice-maker.

For hope’s return and love’s dawning,
The sounds of what may be freedom.

Weary Wear

Understanding is
Difficult when all you feel
Is magnified pain;
Welcome to the fierce party
Where the fight is to be real, heal.
Put it all away
The problem and scalding tears
No illustration
Is necessary because
Everyone has scrabbled in
The concoction made
When one forgets to close those
Cabinet doors written of
In proper legend,
The lore of continued
Battles in ongoing war.
No one becomes the victor,
Only adept at disguise.
Screams of despair
Rise, rise into pallid skies
Pain never fades, stops,
But does not lie; it destroys
Equally all of the time.

Prompt: Create something quickly, which seems you took considerable time. Try to engage all your creativity in limited moments.

Gratitude Today
I was up to see Alex off.
I finished up the magazine pages with the others.
I took a nap.
Alex made it to Jacksonville safely.
I think I will complete this post in time.

I appreciate your visit. Please follow Haphazard Creative or come again. Your comments and suggestions are welcome, and your likes add encouragement when I falter in my resolution.

Errant Lines

It may change nothing
When I tell you, “I Love You,”
But my heart bleeds true.

When death takes someone
And shackles a living heart
To lingering loss
It is, and over-felt, cost,
Touching the ones left alive.

I am the swift ghost
Too quick for you to see past
The things you condone.

Why is it I want
The things I cannot obtain?
Life remains worthwhile.

You gave me passion,
A desire to chase after,
Love left unobtained.

You always turn up,
A memory I still keep,
Troubling my sleep.

Is the gift given
Something positively real,
Or something I feel.

My dear, I do give…
I wish I could somehow show
You all your meaning.

Whatever we did matters;
It taught us to create love
Everywhere, every way, now.

It is no cheap thing,
But an increasing need
In the real world: LOVE!

Sad songs, puppy dogs, and pictures,
To recall when you could not go on.
Yet here you are, and the memories
Are why you have the moment which
Provides all the happiness you never
Believed would be yours this time.

It is, forever shall it be, despite me.
I am a minnow in a vast lake
With no way to understand
Everything outside of me.
So many things try to swallow me.
Life is brief; love is never free.
My heart is a difficulty,
It encompasses everyone with me.

Hitch a ride over
Mountains, hang an anchor on
A star; be, you are.

Enlist Bliss

What we never guess,
What we always hope to be,
Is reality
In a space and time believed –
Breathed by creativity.

Heart, mind, soul, spirit,
Joined within us together
With the greatest love,
We are the dauntless elements –
Whom God created for good.

Walking the sunshine
Feeling all that is clear, fair,
Like Heaven compares.
