Elevate Creativity

How can you improve your creative endeavors?

One thing that is beneficial to gaining skill in your art is studying those who excel in doing it. Also, those who are less apt can teach much.

Reading voraciously and a wide variety of forms, genres, and styles will lead you to handle language with more facility when you write. It will improve your editing ability as well. There are a plethora of writing craft books that can provide instruction, especially if you do the recommended exercises. Writing every day is a practice any serious writer does well to engage. If the current creative project is stuck writing something else, even a journal entry will keep the imagination working.

Artists and photographers can learn much by observing the work of others and others at work. We live in a magic time when we can watch videos of many things which may be instructive.

Daily practice in a sketchbook or taking photos can significantly improve the craft. Books and manuals are also instructive.

A website or blog used for exposure and to challenge one to work regularly is an ideal practice. All creative endeavors require daily work and devotion—acting, musical instruments, singing, well, really almost anything.

As you will find elsewhere on Haphazard Creative, I do not constrain creativity to the liberal arts. I have a strong and unshakeable belief that every person has creative skills. If we, as created in the Creator’s image, genuinely resemble Him, we have creative abilities. So, even if one is not into liberal arts, cooking, organizing, parenting, homemaking, mechanical skill, and all else requires creativity.

Feed your creativity with things that bring you joy and nourish your soul. Music, long drives, dancing, swimming, hiking, telling jokes, the things you consider guilty pleasures all fill the well. If you keep the well full, you will find yourself in the flow when you attempt to create.

I hope this inspires you. I do believe creativity is a working of love, and our world needs love tremendously. Be well, and take care of the spark that ignites creation in you.

I finished my journal today and had the pleasure of choosing a new one.
Volume Eight of However, Whatever, Whenever, Wherever, Why? I believe I began using that title in mid-2017. With a title like that it is inspiring just to open it. I need all the help I can obtain.

The Living Dead

Filing Review: The Living Dead by George A. Romero & Daniel Kraus

First, I do not do zombies. I did watch some of Romero’s films from 1979 to 1981. Since then, I have entirely avoided the genre. My take on zombies, terrifying creatures I refused to admit had existence, believing that would allow me safety. I know, ostrich, I can run with the birds.

I went to the library a few weeks ago and found this new release. I mused perhaps it was time I let an expert better familiarize me with ghouls.

This book defied my expectations. It did not scare me with the monsters but with the degeneracy of some of the human characters. This book is a significant comment on humanity and so timely in coming out in the pandemic.

It is one of the very best books I have read in recent times. The final chapters were so unbelievably well-done that I was in tears for many pages.

I do not think a five-star rating does this book justice. Go ahead, indulge me, and let me say it is a ten. You should read it. I highly recommend it. It is a bit long, though, maybe plunge into it over a couple of weekends.

A full-post review, you know I loved it.

The Well Is Deep

Feed and Upkeep: The well within, where creativity and imagination reside, relies on consistent and varied tasks to maintain function and outpour.

Reading most any material will do. I have a love of novels, instructional volumes, Bibles, reference tomes. Still, poetry books, magazines, newspapers, biographies, old, outdated texts, and anything else that comes within my reach are beloved.

Music lifts my spirits and stitches up the tears that plague my soul. Without lyric, melody, and harmony, life would be dark and dull. I listen to virtually anything. I am always finding new favorites that tweak my ears.

Pens are an unquenchable delight. Switching to a different one can somehow spur an unusual stream of thought, freed from wherever it took flight.

Art supplies can move me to discover parts of me for which I never knew there existed a need.

Cards, journals, paper somehow seem full of beauties I search for when I am distracted. I often find a binding peace in words that flow like honey from the interiors I did not know were waiting.

Time with Tribble and Wookie, my extraordinary dogs, grounds me and helps relax my hyperactivity.

Driving can be a journey into spaces between my heartbeats. The heart of me responds to the motion and the emotion of the music that usually plays.

I have to be cautious, for funds are few, but shopping with the beauty of acquisition and variety of choice bubbles the well.

Costuming within the wardrobe I chose also has a pleasure that suits me.

I am highly productive with creativity, so I slake my thirst at the well continually. No one can build without quality materials. Taking time to restore our power is an essential portion of the creative function. I hope maybe you found some ideas. May you always find what you require before you come to know your need.

What do you do to fill your well, or do you have other words for it? Can you increase your inflow so you have more product?

Do you have persons who encourage and inspire you to the point the well is filled?

Does conversation carry you to new constellations where you find true being?

And

Today we sail oceans
With only feelings to guide
These ships called our lives,
Love is our best compass primed
With tenderness, empathy.

*****

The blood of dragons
Running like precious nectar
Through veins of humans
Makes us a little crazy,
Creating love beyond pain.

I hope all of you are well, cozy, and finding creative wells to delve into. I went to the library yesterday and got a collection of ten books that I am delighted with. I think the Kindle will be less used for awhile.

Thank you for visiting Haphazard Creative. Come again soon, or follow.

I hope you have a good week.

What Inspires You?

I have been in a Journal Writing group that began on Yahoo and moved to Facebook for a very long time. Today, our moderator asked, “What Inspires You?” Me, being an equal opportunity opportunist jumped on the subject and brought it here. What follows are a few of my inspirations.

INSPIRATION:

Reading, writing, photography, kindness, the beauty of creation especially people, music, a taste, a smell, a sensation I cannot describe, light, shadows, my dogs, being alone, being free, you all here, knowing those who have gone still have influence in life, love, belief, togetherness, God’s presence and blessings, devices, shelter, chocolate, diet soda, everything my dears.

There is no limit to what can lead my mind to ponder. I wonder, is it like that for you? Do you have to be in a certain mood? I find myself often excited by the simple fact of being and must celebrate its vast array of goodness.

Life is dangerous
Never fair without God near;
The love of ages
On us befalls when we call
Jesus into our dreams, plans.

I am sure I fall
Far short of who I should be,
But it is beyond me.

I am grateful:
1.  I have a Kirby.
2.  I have stupendous dogs.
3.  I have collected tons of books.
4.  I am gifted with the ability to write.
5.  I tend to inspire extreme loyalty in my friends, those few who remain.

Ladies and gentlemen, I wonder, do you like WordPress’ Block Editor? I tried it and found it was like hieroglyphics. I, therefore, reset my space to classic.

Thank you for visiting Haphazard Creative. I hope you found something to your liking and that you will follow or return to the site. It is my prayer that God keep each of you safe and blessed. No matter what may befall your circumstances rest in the assurance that you are much loved.

As a prompt, just to give you a boost, create something in celebration of your inspirations. Also, remember always, no matter what, never give up.
