Sand Through Hands

Time is running out
On the days given to spend,
Each moment nearer
The end, coming rapidly,
Choosing ways to remember.
Softly spoken words
Building structures of courage
Lifting toward joy,
A legacy of inspiration
Called from desperate foundations.
Changing destiny
With diligent effort, faith,
Convinced the broken
Can rise, remade in beauty
Becoming auspicious lives.
Never giving up
Though lonely shadows encroach
Finding starlight dusk
Choosing to reckon it good
As long as the wild heart beats.
Welcoming the love
Finally, given for passion,
Ardor lends life the spices
To encourage remaining
In the troublesome pursuit
Long after appetite loses
The power of motivation,
But revives over again,
Desire ravenous for fulfillment.

My Be Your Own Muse shirt and tablet.

Love is a strange thing;
Lifting to heights seldom climbed
Without its being.

He is not mine, no,
Just a dream I follow for
Today, tomorrow,
Tough times that I need someone
To keep me toeing the line.

I will not let you
See the tears track down my cheeks,
Though my heart does break,
All these people sleep, awake,
But cannot see how I ache.

Prompt:
Many works of art are hypothetical, only existing in imagination, but creators bring them into life. Make something antithetical to your reality.

Gratitude:
Chocolate mint.
Coffee.
Dollar Tree.
Richard, in so many ways.
The Expanse.

Prompt: Use color, design, words to create something that you wish to express.

Thankfulness:
The more I create, the more I learn.
I washed many loads of clothes today.
Alex and I talked.
I sang.
Reading and watching video was inspiring.

Language Lingers

Each word a missile
Launched separate, from souls
Who need expression
For nurture – promoting growth,
Creating beauty,
Encouraging resilience,
Openness, acceptance, willingness
To stay with situations long enough,
To understand the lessons life teaches,
Among the joys and sufferings
Brought with laughter, smiles, tears.
No dream too lofty, no hope sparse,
Unreal; all in proper time revealed,
The love sought becomes the blessing,
Arriving unexpectedly when there
Exists longing to give and care
Beyond the desire to acquire and keep,
Meeting the needs of the creature,
With gifts of loving, precious sweet.
Whispered wisps bubbling from hearts
Communicating what is known
Gathered close-in like building stones
Stable, fierce and yet, trilling song
Lines well-written made to stand,
Against the ravages of time, again.

Prompt
Create something to celebrate the meaning of language, visual or verbal.

Thankful
The days that might have destroyed me, forever, did not.
I finished a book today.
Writing is medicine to mend wounds, create scars.
I rested.
I wrote a lot during this day.

Dabbles Everywhere

Once, much like peasants
Left in the desert’s harsh sun,
Now, relief may come,
Though through no action our own
But many blessings given.

We have today, now,
Tomorrow a hopeful dream
May become our truth.

Breaking foamy waves
Shining lit by sparkling sun
New hope, dreams begun.

Valleys of shadow,
Mountaintops of brilliant sun,
Our journey goes on.

So fragile small hope
Then God broke heavy shackles –
Setting love to life.

Desolation of heart,
Soul, feeling, and character,
Taught us to follow
Love, leave division, unite –
Within freedom’s holy light.

I will sing my love
As a cry and a quiet prayer
And dream my dream true.

Fear may trouble us
Doubt may torment sunny days,
But it is okay
We are overcomers all,
Our hearts are brave, bearing love.

The gifts, more than cost,
Bestow happiness forthright
Love, we are for life.

Dear Lord, please provide
For us, Your gracious blessing,
Help us not to fall.

Prompt
When one writes short, many things can be covered independently. Try your hand at haiku, which are counted syllable poems of three lines with counts of 5 – 7 – 5. If you care to, do some tanka as well, the syllable counts are 5 – 7 – 5 – 7 – 7. These short forms are good exercises to prepare the voice for more extensive verse.

Gratitude Now
Listening to my favorites, The Rolling Stones, in live shows streamed from YouTube.
Spending time with Richard when I did not wish to be alone.
Catching a nap.
Coming home so I can Rock.
My ice-maker.

The sounds of what may be freedom.

Ties, Binding

Love is our true fate,
Given us for all goodness,
Aiding survival.

A child is a gift
Perfectly bestowed, teaching,
Lessons as we go.

We may not answer
All the questions rendered us,
But wisdom becomes

My son, Alex, and I out hiking.

Prompt:
Explore some relationship, dear to you, in a creative form. If shorts appeal, use haiku, tanka, or just limited lines.

I have a tribe.
My evening with Richard.
