Most of my work today poured into my journal. Writing by hand sometimes seems more directly connected to creation within the brain. The beginning was rough, but a topic finally appeared.
Gratitude List
I Am Thankful:
1. Although the start was challenging, I found things to fill my pages. 2. I slept more than at times. 3. My Son, Alex, called. 4. I got some troubled devices sorted out. 5. Life is filled with pleasant surprises.

Pardon my use of the word enemies; until recently, I had believed myself without the degree of hostility fostered toward me that warrants the use of that term, but I now conclude there are some persons and organizations who so qualify.
Following is the first page of my journal for the year 2023. The anger I explore in the poem was and is toward Wookie, my dog, who upset me almost further than my grip on my emotions could sustain. I happily inform you that the beast is alive and well.
I hope you proceed into this promising New Year with peace and joy. We have much for which to be thankful over the past year, and we can meet 2023 with positivity. New blessings and greater abundance await us if we will but welcome them into our lives.
I am confident that we can go forward in good spirits, knowing improvement may greet us if we avail ourselves of the wonder of Love and live within its grace.
1. My life is blessed. 2. I have a home that affords me shelter and some comfort. 3. There is adequate food in my domicile that starvation is now averted. 4. The dogs are company and caring toward me. 5. I love my life and am content at this point, for God holds me in His tremendous Love.
PROMPT: Start your year with something that expresses where you stand at this juncture. Use any media or mixture thereof that appeals to you. If you wish, share your work as I have done here.

I am not who I might be if life were a different reality. I walk between this and that, here and there, time and forever. I get lost because there is never enough of my giving to soothe the souls I disturb. I would love, Love, love, but am a nuisance, a bygone heart ripped apart. Whoever, I am meant to be is twisted and confused within me and without any security. So, blame, blame the rain that falls October from these troubled eyes. An Agent of Spiraling Chaos, may be the truth , there, though I cannot see, thinking Haphazard Creative more truly me.
I am hoping and hiding, an original, tortured by rank facsimiles. No, no, you misread my disposition candidly.
God heals, holds, enfolds Us in His Love unending We are His children, Bought, the price, Christ’s sacrifice, Jesus is forever for us. Gifts: mercy, grace, Love Always accruing to us We are blessed children, Each one precious to Jesus Souls, hearts, sealed by His Spirit.
We have the hard hurt down Knocking us roughly around But we keep reaching higher Trusting God to lift us out, Because Jesus is stronger Than every personal storm, He has been fighting longer Than we have ever known. Our Lord, what he has begun, He will never desert He fights against our hurt, Tears may often fall But Christ hears every call He will be with us, exceeding Each need throughout eternity. Our struggles shall not be lost Jesus paid our debt upon His Cross He counted our lives Worth sacrifice at any cost, We can stand with Him When our lives are most grim; Our Savior will come again He will gather us all in He promised a home with Him. Come now, each who has trouble Jesus will gladly meet our needs When we place our trust in Him.
What is this fond thing A haunting that enfolds us, New yet, familiar Like the breezes’ gentle kiss? Since encouragement to Love Is a melody Quieting contentious thought, We swim into song All beauties, surrounding – still Shadows – knowing every name; Life embraces Loving Wrapping our core uniqueness In almost comfort, But restlessness inspires reach To achieve, complete, receive; Adventure whispers Never hesitate, embark. Moments so fleeting – Do not give up this striving, For excellence commissions Toward performance, Rousing harmony stellar Turning inside out Our hearts’ dear feelings become An ocean, emotion, Love Beckoning each day, Life does sing.
On Friday, August 12, I drove to Chattanooga to visit my son, Alex. I took him a few supplies since he will be starting college at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus soon. He gave me a tour of the campus, and I was amazed.
We ate some scrumptious food and we visited both portions of the Tennesse Aquarium.
I wrote the poem at the beginning of the post, longhand in my journal today. My only significant change was bringing it from the first person to a universal third when I typed it on my phone.
I wish I could attend college. It would be an incredible adventure. I hope Alex has a tremendous academic experience in studying Data Science. There is much on that campus to keep him interested and busy.
I am grateful I found the courage to drive up to see Alex. I am so honored to have such a talented young man who has accomplished much as my son. God blessed me abundantly in the gift of a child with his aptitudes to offer the world.
